The first recorded use of folly as a colour name in English was in 1920.

week 21 – Turqouise

Turquoise is the name of a greenish-blue colour, based on the gem of the same name. The word turquoise comes from the French for Turkish, as the gem was originally imported from Turkey. The first recorded use of turquoise as a color name in English was in 1573.

Maya blue first appeared around 800, and it was still used in the 16th century in several convents of Colonial Mexico. The techniques for its production were lost in Mexico, but in Cuba there are examples from 1830.
