7/52 — Cerise

Week 7 and we have another bright colour… But not as bright as last week’s yellow, lol. This week we have Cerise.

I had got the outfit when I was planning to the Double Dose for this week, so I was already prepared. I have been trying to found some new-to-me stores/designers, but I went back to Last Period. LP is a Japanese store where almost everything is less than 100L$, except for the tights/socks fatpacks and other accessories.

Week 6 and Luna has given us a really bright colour to use…. Yellow!!!!  I had a tough time with this colour, but I came up with this look with some subdued tones.

Something New, Something Old

Hey there… Sorry I haven’t blogged much lately, but that RL for you… annoyingly interferring.

I have 2 outfits to show you featuring some things that are new and some that are old. First is a mix of Shoe Fair and Platinum Hunt items. The Platinum Hunt is a hunt with a twist, and runs throught to August 3. The items are available for 10L$ and there are 100 stores taking part, so be prepared to be spend 1oooL$.

Blue, Green or in Between??

Hi….. Question for you today.

How would do describe the following colours….turquoise and teal? Blue, Green or in between???

I like to mix and match when I can. So when my friend Cali created a new SL group for her friends who liked freebies, I didn’t hesitate to accept the invitation to join. One of the freebies she informed the group of was a set of arm warmers from Acid & Mala, in teal for 10 L$ for group members only.

I hopped along to A & M, and joined the group, then promptly brought the warmers. I asked the above question, because it would seem that what one designer calls teal is not necessarily what you or other designers would call the colour…

I will leave the picture to show why I asked the question in the first instance.

Desert Reaper

I have finally figured out how to combine photos in GIMP….. lol

I have noticed that I tend to blog outfits that I have in my inventory, as I feel that there are already quite a lot of blogs that focus is on SL fashion. Not that is a bad thing, but having a different focus for a blog is a great thing.

The outfit that I want to bring to your eyes today is one created by Doc Eldritch, owner of DE Designs. He creates clothes for both men and women, in styles from Gothic, Formal and Casual. The quality of the designing can be seen in this particular outfit (“Intruder”), with attention paid to the buckles and straps, and the shading of the fabric as it stretches over my avi’s shape.

Mr Eldritch has redesigned this outfit and the new one (Intruder 09) is now available on xSLstreet and at his inworld mainstore, and has retired the original Intruder.  Go to http://dedesigning.com/blog/?s=intruder and you can see pictures of the new version, for both men and women .

The outfit reminded me of those sci-fi novels where you encounter strange new worlds and weird alien races. One such novel was Dune by Frank Herbert, where the main action takes place on a desert world. Also, the desert moon of Tatooine in Star Wars also came to mind, hence the Desert part of the title. The inspiration for the Reaper part of the name was inspired by the shadowy characters like bounty hunters that often populate such novels or films.

Keeping the Dune influence in mind, I set out to find a suitable location to take photos. There is a Dune-based sim, Splintered Rock, which is part of a 4-sim roleplay area. The photos were taken on the Deep Desert sim.

Indian Summer

*sniffle sniffle* *cough cough* … yet again I have caught the dreaded common cold, and so I am off work in RL for the whole of this week.

I know that it has been some time since I last posted something, so I thought I would put pen to paper …. erm ok, fingers to keyboard.

There is a week or two of really good weather when summer struggles on and autumn wrestles to gain a foothold, and this is often called a ‘Indian Summer’.  The title of this post was inspired by the outfit that I’m currently wearing in SL, made up of individual pieces made by Zaara Kohime.

Zaara’s creations are a fusion, a blending, of eastern (Indian) and western designs and textures. Some of the first outfits Zaara created were saris and lehengas (women’s outfits from India) as she could not find anything that she liked, but over the last 2 years she has created an extensive separates collection of shirts, skirts & trousers showing her creativeness as a designer, using the rich textures and colours of her homeland, India.

As well as designing clothes, Zaara also creates jewelry, which are often modern and comtemporary in design. But or those who like authentic/ethnic pieces, these too are available at the mainstore.

SKINS IN SL (part 1)

As I had been to Rockberry and got some really nice skins at a very reasonable price, and I had a look at the skins I had already in my inventory, it got me thinking about the skins available in SL for the female avatar.

I have found that like clothes and shoes, there are skins available to everyone in every price bracket — from the freebies to the most expensive (about 1000L$ +).

Oh yes there are 1000L$+ skins out there. Below are some of the stores that I know of, although I have no doubt there are many more that I don’t know about.

This is just a showcase of some of the skins available and I do not want to say that one particular range is good ffor everyone. Just as in RL, all avatars in SL are different. As in RL too, we invest a lot of time & energy in making our avatar selves looking good.

First on my tour is  Platinum. This is located on its own island sim, Platinum World, and the landing point is between the 2 halves of the shop…. to one side is the men’s section (sign-posted by a giant male mannequin) and on the other, the women’s section (with no mannequin).

Above are just two of the skins that Platinum has on sale. Each one is on sale for 1000L$ and the collection for 5000L$. The demos are free.

The next step in my tour is RockBerry. This is a lovely shop to visit. The skins are spread around the groundfloor of the store, with some upstairs on the firstfloor to the right.

I had come across this brand via the blog, and it was until my friend, Evelyn Hartshon, listed this as one of her top stores in SL, did I actually go to the store. Thanks Evelyn .

I have been unable to obtain any pictures of the skins available at RockBerry. However, RockBerry (owned by Helen Beebe) has a blog and the link is in my Blogroll, where you can find details about all the available skins.

The demo skins are free. Almost all skins come with 4 different options (shaved, dark brows & shaved, dark brows and natural), and come in 4 different skin tones (light, natural tan and dark). Each skin tone has 6 different makeup options.

There are some skins available for 275L$, which come in shaved & natural, and others availble for 450L$ with all 4 options. So far RockBerry is the only store that offers skins at a reasonable price and offer a good selection of skins. I would recommend that you visit this store at some point and look for yourself.
