One for the Girls

As the title says, this is one for the girls. This is about the Just for the Girls Hunt, which has been going on throughout April, organised by the same team behind the successful Just for the Guys Hunts.

I have not done the JFTG hunt because it is some 100+ stores long… but I did come across 2 of the prizes, one from Alexohol and the other from my favourite grunge wear store, Ducknipple.

It was serendipitous that I had won the shoes from the Lucky Chair at Wetherby’s some days before I found the dress at Alexohol, and the shoes were in a matching colour. Also while I was at Body Heat looking the Georgia skins, I found the right skin/make-up on sale for 10L$. All thanks to that funny thing, Serendipity, lol.

The second outfit came from Ducknipple.  Although called Pink, in fact it is a purple leopard print dress.

I couldn’t get a picture of the full look as I couldn’t put on my shoes without the shoeshape replacing my skin with a default texture, . So I ended downloading the Emerald viewer which is based on the older v1 viewer, and haven’t had the problem since, lol.

At the Back of the Wardrobe

It happens to us all at some point in RL or SL that while we are looking for something in the closet/wardrobe/chest (of draws), we stumble across some forgotten item of clothing or pair of shoes. We ponder things like ‘when did I get this?’, ‘where did I get it/them from?’ and often we don’t have answers to these questions.

I was looking through the Hunts, Freebies & Cheapies folders in Emmi’s inventory and stumbled across this set of stuff from Diapop. I did some digging around and found that this had been the Diapop offering on the Button Hunt in March.

Zombies & The Alternative Fair

Well… it has been a few days since my last posting, but I was waiting for the Alternative Fair to start, as I want to mix things up a little.

The Zombie Popcorn Hunt (ZPH) is still on but you have little more than a week to do it. It is not as long as some hunts (such as Just for the Guys/Girls, Make Him Over, etc) but it isn’t a short one either… as it has 88 stores participating, with goodies all based on the  classic horror movie favourite, the zombie. You are looking for little boxes of popcorn.

I only have the one picture featuring the ZPH goodies I got… I’ll admit that I didn’t do the whole hunt, but I did get some good stuff from the stores I knew and even from one I had heard of but not been to.

As well as the ZPH offering zombieness, Ivey Deschanel (owner and creative genius behind Sn@tch) has organised the first Alternative Fair, featuring over 50 designers in punk, rock, gothic, grunge, lolli, visual kei, cyberwear and many other styles of alternative clothing, skins, hair and accessories (click here and here for more info).

When I was planning my holiday to Mexico in 2008, I found that the south of the country (which borders Guatamala, Belize & Hondorus) was a known area of malaria. I went prepared with anti-malaria tablets, insecticide repellants, and other things… However, most of the people of Africa cannot afford a simple thing like a mosquito net, let alone expensive anti-malaria medications. So if you have 10-15 mins to go to the Alternative Fair, please go even if you don’t buy anything. Around the fair there are donation boxes as well as the charity vendors, so you can always drop a few L$ into a donation box.

While I nosed around the Alternative Fair, I picked up some freebies and one dollarbie.

Double Dose

As well as the usual bargain days or weekends (such as 50L$ Fridays, 35L$ Thursdays or 60L$ Sundays (& Saturdays)), there is a new kid on the grid…. Project Themeory. All the items offers under the Project Themeory banner are available for 75L$ for the Saturday & Sunday only. All items are made to a theme.

Last Saturday (10 April) saw the first PT collection released under the theme of Spring.

The first of 2 Project Themeory outfits is from Vive9. I can hear you mumbling that Vive9 is non-exist… Yes it is, but it is my opinion that Vive9 was asked to take part before they closed and once a promise is made, it has to be kept.

This Spring Vintage Romper is just perfect for the sunny Spring days we have atm….

The second is from this week’s collection under the theme of Geek Chic. I usually peruse the notecards I get from such events first to see who is taking part, before hopping off all over the grid. This week I saw that BOOM was taking part and fell in love their offering, Ms. Popular.

50L$ Fridays

All of us like a good bargain… free or cheap. In SL there are many ways that designers offer their wares at a bargain price… Humpday Happiness (on Wednesdays @ 69L$), 35L$ Thursdays, 50L$ Fridays, 60L$ Sundays (& Saturdays) and Bargain Hunters Paradise (BHP).

Some of the items offered are either an exclusive one-time only or something already available in an exclusive colour. Since I first heard of 50L$ Fridays (FLF), I have sim-hopped for an hour looking at the offered items. The designers involved with FLF include some of my favourite, such as So Many Styles and This is a Fawn, and also include some I hadn’t been to, like Whippet & Buck and Kookie.

I have 2 outfits to show featuring a couple of this week’s FLF. The first is the prairie blouse from So Many Styles, which is a great casual blouse that you dress down or up. I have chosen to pair it with a pair of jeans from Relzpsa Loc, creating a casual look.

The second outfit features a tank top from Whippet & Buck, which I paired with a pair of Chinese-influenced trousers/pants from Lika Ruby which a unexpected bargain. I found the Lika Ruby store on the Magi Take Shop island whilst exploring the sim and found some nice Chinese-influenced clothes, such as dresses, tops and pants.

One last point — I have downloaded the new SL viewer 2.0 and am slowly getting used to the new user interface. But one great feature that I really like is the Current Outfit folder in my inventory which shows everything I am wearing. I had a problem with taking pictures until looking at the in-world help and it twigged that I should be selecting the Current Window option, and I have found that the resolution is just as good as in the old viewer when I took high res pictures.

Casualness

Hey!!!

I know that it has been only 2 days since my lost post, but I had some great goodies for you. And, no, it’s not FoaB, but that shouldn’t stop me from showing some fabulous cheapies, lol.

I have 2 completely different looks for you. One is made from some Lace & Steel and Fishy Strawberry, and the other is from Cynful.

The top is one of a pair from Lace & Steel, who are participating in the Magic And Romance Hunt. I paired it with a pair of Fishy Strawberry’s Equinox jeans, in a shade of almost metallic brown.  The brown jeans compliment and heightens the brown tint of the top.

The boots are from Heart & Sole, who are also in the M & R Hunt.

I usually go out and about in SL looking for locations for my pictures, but sometimes SL can be a little mardy in regards to teleporting. So, I have built myself a photostudio backdrop with scripted texture changes and uploaded some landscape textures I had acquired. But I will still take pictures out and about SL when I come across a location I want to show to you.

The 2nd outfit is from Cynful. It is the new dollarbie in the store. It comes with 2 tops and 2 bottoms (one of which is super low-rise).

It must of been coincidence that yesterday I discovered Duh! for myself, and the prize of one lucky chair was the pair of velvet flats in this purple colour called Berries. Then soon after Cynful releases the new dollarbie in a purple colour. I will admit I don’t wear tracksuits in RL or in SL, but this is an exception. An exception because of the quality of the texturing and colouring…. I can ‘feel’ the smoothness and softness of the velvet-like fabric.

Keeping to the theme of Casual, I chose the Maitreya hair called Sasha. Maitreya released 2 colours (Ashe & Bistre) of the Sasha hair for 50L$ to help raise money for the American Red Cross to help Haiti in the wake of the large earthquake. The beanie-type cap is part of the hair and is texture change.  Please note the hair is now available in store at full price.

Fashion on a Budget 3

It’s Day 3 of my week long special and, boy, what gems I have in store for you.

Just notice that today’s pics are all of a colour theme, various shades of pink with black…oh well.

First of today’s three freebies is a little gem I found on Xstreet, from Paradisis. I had to mod the skirt by moving it up a bit,  and yes, the skirt is really that short!!!! It reminds me of those Latin dance dresses, where there is very left to the imagination, lol. The outfit includes the top on all layers, sleeve extensions (as gloves) and panties on all layers. It just as well I did wear the panties….

Ok… So I like small and dumpy…It’s the pose I chose, honest. I love chenille; it has a softness that natural fibres don’t have. Cotton and linen can be stiff, and wool can be bulky…but chenille, being a man-made fibre is the opposite. I used to own a chenille sweater in RL and wore it so often, it became bare in places ….at least that can’t happen in SL, hehehehe.

Mischief & Ibizarre

Hi there!!!

I have a nice new outfit in SL at the moment, made from items brought at yet more new-to-me stores… This time it is Mischief and Ibizarre.

As it is now bitterly cold, I am buying some nice knitwear to keep me toasty warm and cosy. I popped along to Ibizarre to check out the store, as I always do, and on the new releases board were this cute little top and knitted jacket. They looked good together, so I brought them there & then.

I have been mixing them up with various jeans I have in my ever growing SL wardrobe…. My other half will soon start complaining that I’m taking all the space up in the wardrobe at our place… Oh well, such is the life of a fashionista, LOL.

I have currently paired the top & jacket up with a pair of cords from Mischief.

Yesterday I got a notecard from Cupcakes…. They have moved to their own sim, and to celebrate the move, they are doing a hunt…. 29 giftwrapped parcels hidden in the Cupcakes mainstore and around the sim. I have found 27 of the 29 parcels, not bad for the second hunt I have done . But BEWARE THE LAG, I tp’d over to the sim, and soon I was lagging like crazy….Everyone who likes Cupcakes seemed to be there, and it was the same today.

Double Dose of Casual

Hey there !!!

Thought I would introduce something new to the blog….. First of all, a new layout – clean, crisp & easier to read the text. Second, a new feature called Double Dose, where I will be showcasing some of the fabulous fashions out on the grid from some of the great fashion designers.

So for the first Double Dose, I have 2 outfits made up of separates from shops that I had not heard of or been to before. I sort of discovered their existence on the blogs.

Casual Chic

The first outfit is a combination of items from Somapop and L’Abel.
I found L’Abel whilst looking for retro-styled clothing, and found this lovely Nelka top. What I really love about this top is the high-waisted design and the combination of textures used, the velvet on the high waistband and cuffs juxtaposed with the metallic grey fabric of the blouse.

I came across these jeans from Somapop on Evie’s blog. I love the details on the waistband and the use of coloured patches as the back pockets and leg cuffs, giving a nice contrast to the blue denim.

Bonfire Casual

For all my readers who do not live in the UK, on November 5th every year we have Guy Fawkes Night (commonly known as Bonfire Night).

It marks the downfall of the Gunpowder Plot of 5 November 1605, in which a number of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to destroy the Houses of Parliament, in London, United Kingdom. Festivities are centred on the use of fireworks and the lighting of bonfires.

Although the rain held off on Bonfire Night itself, it was still pretty cold. I found the skirt and cardigan at a new-to-me store, Anuenue. I love woollen sweaters & cardigans, but in RL wool can, somtimes, make me itch . What I really love about this cardigan is the detailing on  the hems, it really sets the grey off nicely.

Out on the Town

Hi there….

All of us fashionistas just love to create new looks with already existing pieces in our wardrobes. I was pondering what to wear in SL, so I challenged myself to making up an outfit any fashionista would wear for a night out on the town.

So here is the result of me digging deep into the depths of my SL wardrobe.

When I was going through a grunge clothing phase, I found a nice little store called DuckNipple. You can get complete outfits and loads of separates there, all nicely made. Whilst browsing on one visit I found these lovely trousers; they have a trill-like texture which I just love. I also love retro items and came also a store called Ivalde, where you can find clothes designed in the styles of the 1920′s through to the 80′s. Neferia Abel, the owner of Ivalde, launched a new range of clothing called L’Abel. The L’Abel range are separates and complete outfits (mainly dresses) all styled with a retro flare.

The L’Abel Euzebia top in grey is a lovely item to have, as it can be worn with or without the sculpted bottom, depending on the look you want. The neckline is detailed with a black lace overlay.

I wanted to keep the look simple and clean, so the only accessories I added were the Clutch Purse from Cherry and shoes from Maitreya.
