23/52 – Asparagus

Yikes!!! It’s been like 3 weeks since I last posted something… I blame real life job for that. I wa getting home in the evenings and had no motivation to get into SL well I’m better and here I am with the 52 Weeks of Colour Challenge for week 23…. Asparagus!!!!!!!

Asparagus has been used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, owing to its delicate flavour and diuretic properties. There is a recipe for cooking asparagus in the oldest surviving book of recipes, Apicius’s third century AD De re coquinaria, Book III. It was cultivated by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, who ate it fresh when in season and dried the vegetable for use in winter. Asparagus is pictured on an Egyptian frieze dating to 3000 BC. France’s Louis XIV had special greenhouses built for growing it. It lost its popularity in the Middle Ages, but returned to favour in the seventeenth century.

One of my favourite new stores is The Secret Store. The most recent is the Chiffon Skirt and there were 2 bonus designs available for limited time… 1 @ The Fashion House and 1 as part of the 21.01.11 collection @ The Dressing Room blue. I missed the TDR blue special edition but I did get the Fashion House edition.

10/52 – Sienna

We have entered the double figures… Yeah, it’s week 10 and this week, we have Sienna. Like Sepia, I know this colour from it’s association with art.

Sienna is a form of limonite clay most famous in the production of oil paint pigments. Its yellow-brown colour comes from ferric (iron) oxides contained within. As a natural pigment, it (along with its chemical cousins ochre and umber) was one of the first pigments to be used by humans, and is found in many cave paintings. The name derives from the most notable Renaissance location for the earth, Siena, Italy, and is short for terra di Siena, “earth of Siena”.

Ok, enough of the history, now for the outfit…..

September Green

I have spent some time today checking that some of the freebies/cheapies that I have for you are still available, and also to update a notecard that Emmi has ready to pass on to anyone who is in need of it.

I have 3 outfits for you today, and first up on the catwalk is a mix of Pixel Dolls, Multiple Personality Designs (MPD) and Elymode. The shrug is part of a complete set, but can be used as a separate item & same with the included cami (not shown), and cost me only 75L$.

The pants were a freebie when Elymode reopened after a refurbishment of the mainstore. One store that I have been to when I was short on cheapies or dollarbies is Multiple Personality Designs (aka MPD). It is from MPD that I got the top, and it came with a skirt bottom (shown), alternative sculpted prim bottom (not shown) and matching green leggings (not shown).

The second outfit is a mix of OoEas! and Glam Affair (formerly Beauty Avatar). I mention this as it can be confusing if you can a folder named Glam Affair but the contents are named Beauty Avatar, and you didn’t know that Beauty Avatar was rebranded some time ago.

When OoEas! first opened, the shorty bustier was available in green (‘grass’) but now they have this lovely cherry red version as the current freebie, which you can find right next to the entrance. The Baviera pants are from Glam Affair discount section and you do need to go back once in a while as new stuff is being added.

It was from Glam Affair for the grand sum of 20L$ that I got the Capri top and the brown Baviera pants. The sneakers I got from Paw 2 Paw.

Something New, Something Old

Sugar and Spice

I have joined the crazy world of Plurk, and asked my fellow plurkers if I should do my Fashion on a Budget series twice a month… Evie replied with the simple answer of Yes. So here I am bringing to you FoaB 2. As usual I will have the freebies and cheapies fro across the grid, and some special offers/exclusives.

The title is inspired by the 19th century nursery poem, What are little boys made of? The second part asks what little girls are made of, to which the response is “sugar and spice and all things nice”. The first outfit is sweet, and a mix-&-match look.

The top is an exclusive recolour of the Xacuti wrap top, in lilac & turqouise. I got it at The Dressing Room BLUE when they had the second collection out. I paired it with the long skirt from Elymode.

My next outfit is the spice. Car Wash and The Wash sims are hosting the bi-annual cart sale, where nothing is more than 10L$. Burning Chrome and Heartsick are sharing one such cart. There are three dress sets, one of which is the Chocolate & Tangerine set.

Also The Dressing Room BLUE 2nd collection, one of the participating designers was Exile and their item was a set of 4 exclusive colourings of the Malibu hairstyle. I chose the Spice colour to match the dress, and it was this that made me think of the nursery rhyme.  My shoes are from Grumble and cost 50L$, and come in another 4 or so neutral colours.

The tattoo I got from Para Designs while I was trying to find the Addicted Hunt gift. It cost me 295L$ and included a colour version on all clothing layers as well as the viewer 2 tattoo layer. The version I wear is the black on the v2 tattoo layer. The bracelets are part of the LouLou & Co Addicted Hunt gift.

More July freebies & cheapies

RL has the unfortunate knack of interferring and upsetting plans. Well, I am back with more freebies and cheapies, which I hope that you will love…

First up is a mix-&-match featuring not-so cheap newness from Tyranny Designs and freebie care of a MM board from OoEas!

Tyr Rozenblum, owner and creative brains of Tyranny Designs, has created a VIP group for the store… However, it costs 250L$ to join, but when members receive group gifts that are worth that and more, I can understand why designers charge! It stops people from joining for purpose of getting the freebies (gifts) then leaving the group.

OoEas! started out with lingerie but they now have some other stuffs like tanktops and dresses. The textures used aare just fab, and the MM boards get changed round every so often, so it pays to visit once in a while lol. The MM items are often in an exclusive colour, such as this denim miniskirt.

Also from OoEas! is the Velvet Embrace corset. This was the June freebie and was still available when I last visited the store which yesterday. I paired it with the long black skirt from Elymode, which is their Under 30 Days pack (available at the mainstore and at Malt Village freebie stall).

One of my favourite Japanese stores is Izumiya, and Izumi Homewood, owner and creative genius, has just released some new stuffs. One such example is the next outfit. At Izumiya you can find complete outfits with accessories like shoes, jewelry and bags for 25L$, and this is the latest addition to the female collection.

It comes with 2 pairs of linen pants (one with prim pockets, cuffs and belt, and one without prim parts), and also included but not shown are a pair of sandals, a tote bag and a leather bracelet. The shoes I chose to wear with this outfit are the white espadrilles from Duh! which I think are not available anymore but the shoes do come in other colours for 25L$ a pair or 60L$ for the basics or brights fatpacks.

Duh! has exclusive colours of some of their designs in the lucky chairs or as dollarbies. Currently the lucky chairs have the Gold Leather Booties and Lime Green Espadrilles for the girls, and the Grecian (white) Spring Flats as the 1L$ item. The ollarbie is changed every month and occasionally the lucky chairs are updated.

Handfuls of goodies

When I find a top or pair of jeans that I really love, I keep going back to it and create new looks. These gems can either be free, cheap or expensive purchases. That is what is behind today’s entry in July’s FoaB.

The first outfit is a complete look which I got from the freebie/cheapie basement at Sn@tch. I like plaid or tartan, but don’t wear it that often.

The dress also comes in grey and red, and the pack includes a red sweater as well. I paired it with the black & white booties from P.S. Styles which cost 39L$, and are also available in other colours for 49L$. I have foud that PS Styles offers a range of items at a reasonable price, and at the top of the store there is a freebie/dollarbie wall with a limited selection but it is worth going back every now and then to see if something new has been added.

The next outfit is a mix-&-match. There is a bargain event that happens over a 2-week period called The Dressing Room (click here). The items are never over 75L$ and are made by some of SL’s big names in fashion design, and include skins,  shapes, accessories as well as clothes. One piece from the current TDR collection is a set of 2 prairie blouses from So Many Styles.

There is something vintage about prairie blouses that I love. I can imagine that it was onceThe  part of a dress and that over time, the fabric has become worn in places, that patching it is not possible so the bodice is salvaged and turned into a top. Also from Sn@tch are the black Hell Bent For Leather pants. These come in other colours including a patterned version called Snakebite.

The last look on offer is also a mix-&-match from TDR with the I @tch leather pants. The TDR item is a lovely summer piece from Aoharu.

The floral jacket can be worn with the white top as shown or on it’s own.

Fashion on a Budget

Hi & happy May Day!! May Day marks the end of the uncomfortable winter half of the year in the Northern hemisphere, and it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations.

With the start of a new month, there are some good hunts coming up…Dark Katz and Myths & Legends are just 2 that Emmi and Viki will be doing. Also, it means its time for a return of my budget miniseries. And boy! do I have some fab goodies for you this time.

To kick off, are some goodies from Mashooka. Mashooka are celebrating their 3rd year anniversary and until Sunday, they have put out approximately 20 gold-wrapped gift boxes containing jewelry and clothes. The first 2 outfits are a mish-mash of separates, creating great casual looks.

The first is the Blossom blouse and Ash pantalon jeans.

The blouse is really a baby-doll top, and the flexi attachments are modifiable so they can e made to fit your shape accordingly. I call the pants ‘jeans’ but the texturing is more of a leather-like material. No matter what the material used, the pants are a good addition to any wardrobe.

The Tristin blouse is a great top, so flexible in styling that it can used with a classy pinstripe suit for the formal look or be worn with jeans for a casual look.

As you can see in the picture, the top can be sheer as my latest tattoo (which I got for free at the Moloko shack @ the Alternative Fair). Also the colour of the top compliments the jeans beautifully.

The last outfit from Mashooka is the Dips minidress. It also comes with the black bolero jacket.

I wanted to do a photoshoot on location. The shoot took place over 3 sims, Japan Chubu (which is home the SL version of the famous Matsumoto castle), Japan Kansai (home to an Edo period settlement) and China Sichuan (home of the SL’s Great Wall of China). I also took photos of the scenery which you can find on my Flickr page.
