weeks 1 & 6 – Champagne & Alice Blue

Oh Lord! It’s only week 6 in Miss Luna’s 52 Weeks colour challenge, but it feels like ages!

This week’s colour is Alice Blue, which is a pale tint of azure that was favoured by Alice Roosevelt Longworth, daughter of Theodore Roosevelt and which sparked a fashion sensation in the United States.

For some reason I have ended up with a darker blue… I must have been thinking of Alice from Through a Looking Glass & Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

Have a fun but spooky Halloween!

As most of you will be getting things ready for some Halloween fun in RL or SL (or Both!!), have fun and stay safe!

Last Friday’s 50L$ Friday event was a mix of stuff. But Glitterati had a Halloweenish item out, which I love…. The Mausoleum with built-in poses.

47 / 52 – Khaki

We are now on the home straight of the 52 Weeks of Colour Challange — the end is in sight.

Week 47 – Khaki

The name of the color khaki coined in British India comes from the Hindustani language (itself a borrowed form of the Persian word khak meaning dust), meaning “dusty, dust covered or earth colored.” It has been used by many armies around the world for uniforms, including camouflage. Most notably, khaki was used by the British Army in India beginning in 1848.

52 Weeks of Colour Challenge

Due to my short absence, I am now kind of playing catch-up on Luna’s 52 Weeks of Colour Challenge.  So here’s part one…

Week 41 - Jazzberry

If you had told me that there was a colour called Jazzberry, I would not have belived you. So I googled it, and according to Wikipedia, it does exact. In fact it is a shade of red-violet. To me it’s a dark raspberry colour.

Week 42 – Chartreuse

Chartreuse is a color halfway between yellow and green that was named because of its resemblance to the green color of one of the French liqueurs called green chartreuse, introduced in 1764. The term chartreuse was first used to refer to “a pale apple-green” in 1884.

Week 43 – Liver

Liver is a term used to describe certain types of dark brown color in dogs and horses. In dogs, it is a dark brown shade. In horses, “liver chestnut” is a term used to describe a chocolate-colored chestnut horse. A liver chestnut is the same genetically as a regular chestnut, but the shade is a dark brown rather than the reddish or rust color more typical of chestnut.

52 Weeks of Colour Catch-up Part 2

This is Part 2 of my attempt to get up to date with Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Colour Challenge.

week 32 – Jade

Jade, also called jade green is a representation of the color of the gemstone called jade, although the stone varies widely in hue. (Please note that the term jade is applied to two different metamorphic rocks that are made up of different silicate minerals: Nephrite and Jadeite. In Nephrite, the higher the iron content the greener the colour.)

Nephrite can be found in a creamy white form (known in China as “mutton fat” jade) as well as in a variety of green colours, whereas jadeite shows more colour variations, including blue, lavender-mauve, pink, and emerald-green colours. Of the two, jadeite is rarer, documented in fewer than 12 places worldwide. Translucent emerald-green jadeite is the most prized variety, both historically and today. As “quetzal” jade, bright green jadeite from Guatemala was treasured by Mesoamerican cultures, and as “kingfisher” jade, vivid green rocks from Burma became the preferred stone of post-1800 Chinese imperial scholars and rulers. Burma (Myanmar) and Guatemala are the principal sources of modern gem jadeite, and Canada of modern lapidary nephrite. Nephrite jade was used mostly in pre-1800 China as well as in New Zealand, the Pacific Coast and Atlantic Coasts of North America, Neolithic Europe, and south-east Asia. In addition to Mesoamerica, jadeite was used by Neolithic Japanese and European cultures.

The color name jade green was first used in Spanish in the form piedra de ijada in 1569.  The first recorded use of “jade green” as a color name in English was in 1892.

In Chinese culture, if one wishes to express one’s love for someone, one gives them something made of the gemstone jade or an object that is colored jade.

52 Weeks of Colour Catch-up Part 1

I had the photo for week 25′s colour Periwinkle all done and set up, but then wham! bang! whallop! RL kicked me in the backside… Facing problems at work, I came depressed and that manifested itself in a major case of SL burn out. Not good for me at the time but I went with the flow, and now having dipped my toe in the water during last week (mainly to clear notices and capped IMs), yesterday & today I have been back in world for best part of each day.

So here is Part 1 of my catch-up session of Luna Jubilee’s 52 weeks of colour challenge…

Not secret anymore

One of my favourite new stores is The Secret Store. The most recent is the Chiffon Skirt and there were 2 bonus designs available for limited time… 1 @ The Fashion House and 1 as part of the 21.01.11 collection @ The Dressing Room blue. I missed the TDR blue special edition but I did get the Fashion House edition.

I took a little road trip over to the Africa sim…

16/52 – Teal

This week the colour is Teal. The name & colour comes from the Common Teal, a type of duck, where the eyes of the drakes  (male ducks) are surrounded by feathers of this colour.

When I saw this cute little sweater, the poster said blue but to me it’s teal. Whatever colour it should be, it’s still cute and there is a green one too in store.

14/52 – Black

OMG!!! Yes, I did take a break from SL as things were hectic at work and I was not in the mood for SL… It also gave me the chance to reflect on my second life and I have decided that despite the bad things that have happened since I first logged in as a SL avi, there have been good things/times too, and I won’t be giving up on SL just yet!

To kick start my return to blogging, I am doing week 14 of Luna Jubilee’s 52 weeks of colour. This time it’s Black.

Black is the color of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light. Although black is sometimes described as an “achromatic”, or hueless, color, in practice it can be considered a color, as in expressions like “black cat” or “black paint”.

And it has a fascinating etymology … Black comes from Old English blæc (“black, dark”, also, “ink”), from Proto-Germanic *blakkaz (“burned”), from Proto-Indo-European *bhleg- (“to burn, gleam, shine, flash”), from base *bhel- (“to shine”), related to Old Saxon blak (“ink”), Old High German blah (“black”), Old Norse blakkr (“dark”), Dutch blaken (“to burn”), and Swedish bläck (“ink”). More distant cognates include Latin flagrare (“to blaze, glow, burn”), and Ancient Greek phlegein (“to burn, scorch”). Black supplanted the wonted Old English word sweart (“black, dark”), which survives as swart, swarth, and swarthy (compare German schwarz and Dutch zwart, “black”).

However, in fashion…. You can go all gothy and dress in black from head to toe, or use black to emphasise/contrast a companion colour, as in black & yellow on a bumblebee. I have decided that the cute little jacket I got from izm a few weeks ago would be the perfect thing for my blackness, with the pale pink ruffle trim.
