Some Plastik Goodies

Plastik is one of those multifaceted stores, where you can not only find clothes but also skins and eyes, and other things for the fantasy roleplaying avatar. Although the clothes at Plastik are relatively expensive, often they come with variations of parts included, one example is the recent new release Aeda jeans.

The Aeda jeans come in 2 collections – the Plain denim in 31 colours, 399L$ each and the Patterned in 32 colours, 499L$ each. Also they come in the following variations:  The Capris & Knees collection consisting of a pair of capris and two pairs of knee length pants.  The Minis and Shorts collection comes with two skirts and three pairs of shorts in all layers.  The Digis and Flares collection is a pair of full length jeans with three styles of sculpted leg: One digitigrade with matching alpha layer, one flared jean type, and a flared cuff. The Skinnies collection is a collection of full length pants that come with a pair of super skinny cuffs, a pair of lazy rolled cuffs, and a pair of normal super skinny cuffs.

I love Lemons!!!

Week 37′s colour was easy peesy lemon squeezy, as the saying goes. Yes, you guessed it! It’s lemon.

Lemon is a colour somewhat resembling yellow and named after the fruit. The colour lemon is a representation of the colour of the outer skin of a lemon. The first recorded use of lemon as a colour name in English was in 1598.

The lemon is both a small evergreen tree (Citrus × limon, often given as C. limon) native to Asia, and the tree’s oval yellow fruit. The fruit is used for culinary and nonculinary purposes throughout the world – primarily for its juice, though the pulp and rind (zest) are also used, mainly in cooking and baking (including a variation of marmalade).

The exact origin of the lemon has remained a mystery, though it is widely presumed that lemons first grew in India, northern Burma, and China. In South and South East Asia, it was known for its antiseptic properties and it was used as an antidote for various poisons. Lemons entered Europe (near southern Italy) no later than the 1st century AD, during the time of Ancient Rome. However, they were not widely cultivated. It was later introduced to Persia and then to Iraq and Egypt around AD 700. The lemon was first recorded in literature in a 10th century Arabic treatise on farming, and was also used as an ornamental plant in early Islamic gardens.It was distributed widely throughout the Arab world and the Mediterranean region between AD 1000 and AD 1150. The first substantial lemon cultivation in Europe began in Genoa in the middle of the 15th century.  It was later introduced to the Americas in 1493 when Christopher Columbus brought lemon seeds to Hispaniola along his voyages. Spanish conquest throughout the New World helped spread lemon seeds. It was mainly used as ornament and medicine.In the 18th and 19th centuries, lemons were increasingly planted in Florida and California, when lemons began to be used in cooking and flavoring.

Limoncello di Angelino is an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy, especially in the region around the Gulf of Naples, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the coast of Amalfi and islands of Procida, Ischia and Capri, but also in Sicily, Sardinia, Menton in France, and the Maltese island of Gozo. Traditionally, it is made from Sorrento lemon peel.

In 1747, James Lind’s experiments on seamen suffering from scurvy involved adding vitamin C to their diets with lemon juice, though it was not till 1766 with Captain James Cook’s first voyage to the South Pacific and Australia/New Zealand that use of lemons/limes were used by the Royal Navy to combat scurvy. Sailors in the Royal Navy were subsequently given the nickname of Limies.

The etymological path of the word lemon suggests a Middle Eastern origin. One of the earliest occurrences of “lemon” is found in a Middle English customs document of 1420–1421, which draws from the Old French limon, thence the Italian limone, from the Arabic laymūn or līmūn, from the Persian līmūn.

11/52 – Indigo

It’s week 11 and we have a lovely shade of blue…Indigo.

The first recorded use of indigo as a color name in English was in 1289. India is believed to be the oldest center of indigo dyeing in the Old World. It was a primary supplier of indigo dye to Europe as early as the Greco-Roman era. The association of India with indigo is reflected in the Greek word for the ‘dye,’ which was indikon (ινδικόν). The Romans used the term indicum, which passed into Italian dialect and eventually into English as the word indigo.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  to all those who follow this little blog of mine. My halls are not decked with holly & ivy but it is not the material things of Christmas that are important, but sometimes having one really nice gift can make a good Christmas great.

Over the last 12 months, the designers and creators in SL have given us fabulous gifts through their various groups, organised fabulous hunts and events for charity. If I had the time earlier I would have put together a ‘Few of my Favourite Things’ post, but in the New Year I am doing something little different on this blog. I signed up to Plurk aout 4 months ago and made friends there of other SLers, including my all-time favourite designer, Ivey Deschanel. Amongst these new friends are a few other designers/creators, and I have been asking them if they didn’t mind me asking a few questions, and happily I have had a positive response from those I have asked.

Now on to the main reason of this little Christmas post. One of my favourite stores in SL is PixelDolls. They are currently having a sale throught the store, which will end 01.01.11, so if you want something different head on over quickly. Also they have a sale section where all the items are 10L$!!!

First of my PixelDolls mix & match is a gothic set…

I had seen the skirt featured as part of an outfit on the feeds, I went to PixelDolls to get it. Whilst there in the separates department, I spotted this lovely little top, and knew that they would go together beautifully.

Next is a cute dress from the Sale Department…Stephanie in green is only 10L$! Though you can also get it in Citrus, Pink, Violet & Sky.

My boots are the House of Curios Noir boots which are texture change so you can coordinate boots to the outfit of your choice (black, silver/grey,brown, blue, red, rose and green/lime, plus 3 group exclusive textures). However, they are not cheap though at 125L$, but this is a bargain compared to some of the big name SL brands.

And my last PixelDolls outfit is a mix of sale items….

The top can be found in the sale department for 10L$ and also comes in raspberry, ocean, indigo, violet & antique. The skirt can be found in the separates department and comes with 4 skirt styles, of which I chose the Mini A Line option.

Christmas goodies

I am not really one to go all OTT about Christmas these days. I hate going to the shops in the last few days before Christmas even to do normal food shopping because of the crowds of people. The trolleys piled high with food that will be wasted over the holiday period… So here I am sitting at the computer (errr.. laptop!!) doing a Christmas special of my Fashion on a Budget, but it is NOT all Christmas clothes though.

First up is the current puzzle outfit from Indi Designs… The 6th piece was put out yesterday for 1L$ with the previous 5 pieces for 5L$ each. The set includes 4 tops in black and white (2 with sewn-in undershirt and 2 with no undershirt), hot pants and stockings.

I treated myself to the modelling chair from Diesel Works, but this is no cheapie item. I got it from the Marketplace for 999L$, though you can demo it at the mainstore inworld. Most of the poses are highly suitable for lingerie/burlesque but I found the three poses shown fitted my current mood really well.

Next is a mix of cheapies from GATO and Holiday Hill. You need to look for the presents under the Christmas tree @ Holiday Hill.

The Ari sweater from Cynful was 10L$ at Holiday Hill and the jeans (in brown stripes only) from GATO were 75L$. I love the clothes from GATO not only for the price but the unique textures used.

Also from GATO is the Toile jeans. They are a new release which I had to get, lol. I mixed it up with an old Midnight Mania item from Sassy Kitty Designs.

My last outfit is a mix of cheapies from Holiday Hill and cost me 20L$.

Week 7 and we have another bright colour… But not as bright as last week’s yellow, lol. This week we have Cerise.

I had got the outfit when I was planning to the Double Dose for this week, so I was already prepared. I have been trying to found some new-to-me stores/designers, but I went back to Last Period. LP is a Japanese store where almost everything is less than 100L$, except for the tights/socks fatpacks and other accessories.

Double Dose – OoEas!

I haven’t done a Double Dose in a few months But as I have a cheapies from OoEas! to show you, I thought it appropriate to bring Double Dose back.

At the entrance to the store, OoEas! have some gifts for you under their Christmas tree for 10L$ each. Two of which are shown below…

‘Prestige’ dress in Emerald – it can be matched with the Prestige boots by Bax Coen. But I chose my favourite boots from House of Curios, Neo.

In the corner, under the Midnight Mania boards, is the Fab Free Christmas shopping tour cart… One of the items is the Miss Clause Velvet Embrace top, also 10L$.

I paired both the bustier and the Miss Clause top with the mini-skirt and tights from the Indi Designs Puzzle outfit, Barbette. Boom time for freebies & cheapies

I was meant to post this yeterday, but I wasn’t feeling to well and decided to go bed early. No doubt you have seen the latest releases from Boom on the feeds… I am not one for going with the crowd, although whilst checking out the new Love Me skirts, I did pick up some free/cheap gifts.

There are 5 gift bags varying in price from 0L$ to 25L$, and I have selected some of the items to show you.

The lovely turquoise & gold top is part of the Miami Nights bodysuit available for 0L$. I chose to pair it with the Getting Low pants (10L$). The hair was Raspberry Aristocrat’s freebie at the Hair Fair 2010.

The Lucky Hoodie was 10L$ and is the only unisex item available. I paired it with Kyoot’s Nonsensical pants, which I think are an old 50L$ Friday item. The trainers are from Indi Designs and are to be found in the discount section in the basement for 125L$ (not cheap but are worth every L$).
