Week 52 – Orange

The colour orange is named after the orange fruit, after the appearance of the ripe fruit. Before this word was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to as ġeolurēad (yellow-red) in Old and Middle English.

The word orange entered Middle English from Old French and Anglo-Norman orenge. The earliest recorded use of the word in English is from the 13th century and referred to the fruit. The earliest attested use of the word in reference to the colour is from the 16th century (1512, in a will now filed with the UK’s Public Records Office).

It is generally thought that Old French borrowed the Italian melarancio (“fruit of the orange tree”, with mela “fruit”) as pume orenge (with pume “fruit”). Although pume orenge is attested earlier than melarancio in available written sources, lexicographers believe that the Italian word is actually older. The word ultimately derives from a Dravidian language—possibly Telugu నారిఙ‌ naarinja or Malayalam നാരങ്ങ‌ naaranga or Tamil நாரம் nāram—via Sanskrit नारङ्ग nāraṅgaḥ “orange tree”, with borrowings through Persian نارنگ nārang and Arabic نارنج nāranj.

23/52 – Asparagus

Yikes!!! It’s been like 3 weeks since I last posted something… I blame real life job for that. I wa getting home in the evenings and had no motivation to get into SL well I’m better and here I am with the 52 Weeks of Colour Challenge for week 23…. Asparagus!!!!!!!

Asparagus has been used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, owing to its delicate flavour and diuretic properties. There is a recipe for cooking asparagus in the oldest surviving book of recipes, Apicius’s third century AD De re coquinaria, Book III. It was cultivated by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, who ate it fresh when in season and dried the vegetable for use in winter. Asparagus is pictured on an Egyptian frieze dating to 3000 BC. France’s Louis XIV had special greenhouses built for growing it. It lost its popularity in the Middle Ages, but returned to favour in the seventeenth century.

Pididdle & PixelDolls

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  to all those who follow this little blog of mine. My halls are not decked with holly & ivy but it is not the material things of Christmas that are important, but sometimes having one really nice gift can make a good Christmas great.

Over the last 12 months, the designers and creators in SL have given us fabulous gifts through their various groups, organised fabulous hunts and events for charity. If I had the time earlier I would have put together a ‘Few of my Favourite Things’ post, but in the New Year I am doing something little different on this blog. I signed up to Plurk aout 4 months ago and made friends there of other SLers, including my all-time favourite designer, Ivey Deschanel. Amongst these new friends are a few other designers/creators, and I have been asking them if they didn’t mind me asking a few questions, and happily I have had a positive response from those I have asked.

Now on to the main reason of this little Christmas post. One of my favourite stores in SL is PixelDolls. They are currently having a sale throught the store, which will end 01.01.11, so if you want something different head on over quickly. Also they have a sale section where all the items are 10L$!!!

First of my PixelDolls mix & match is a gothic set…

I had seen the skirt featured as part of an outfit on the feeds, I went to PixelDolls to get it. Whilst there in the separates department, I spotted this lovely little top, and knew that they would go together beautifully.

Next is a cute dress from the Sale Department…Stephanie in green is only 10L$! Though you can also get it in Citrus, Pink, Violet & Sky.

My boots are the House of Curios Noir boots which are texture change so you can coordinate boots to the outfit of your choice (black, silver/grey,brown, blue, red, rose and green/lime, plus 3 group exclusive textures). However, they are not cheap though at 125L$, but this is a bargain compared to some of the big name SL brands.

And my last PixelDolls outfit is a mix of sale items….

The top can be found in the sale department for 10L$ and also comes in raspberry, ocean, indigo, violet & antique. The skirt can be found in the separates department and comes with 4 skirt styles, of which I chose the Mini A Line option.

Alternative Christmas gifties

I went to Ho Wear last night to get some of the 12 free gifties in the store… they can be found in 4 groups of gift boxes for 0L$ each!! Two have a skin & a shape, and the other 10 have complete outfits.

The first outfit is the Graffiti set… It comes with 2 top and 6 pants, which is great if you like mix & match like I do.

The skin I’m wearing is one of the 2 gifties ….Sydney 7 is not one of my normal tones but for this clothes set it was perfect.

Next is one of 3 goth dresses, called Muse. With this, I chose the Sydney vamp 6 skin which is the other giftie skin. This have kept to be my fancy dress/Halloween party costume.

I love the lace skirt of the jacket… so frothy & floaty.

The other dress is Grace. It is perfect as a gothic bridal dress.

There are 3 skirt options …. option 3 as shown above with black silk & lace, option 2 on the left as seen below is plain black silk and option 1 on the right below.

Double Dose – OoEas!

I haven’t done a Double Dose in a few months But as I have a cheapies from OoEas! to show you, I thought it appropriate to bring Double Dose back.

November Freebies

My Fashion on a Budget miniseries is back!  If you have been hiding under a rock, then you might not know that Canimal Zephyr is having a closing down sale at her store as she is leaving SL and she has marked most of her items down to 50L$. October Bargains

I went to the Gnubie store the other day and found that some designers have put out new freebies. One was Nyte Caligari of Nyte & Day…. She has put out 4 new outfits. I have 2 of these outfits to show you. These outfits can be mixed up together or with other items in your wardrobe.

I also decided to go to Multiple Personality Designs (aka MPD) to see what newness they have. I came across this cute short/tank set at the front of the store for free.

The skin I am wearing is Pumpkin Pie in the Reverie tone from Heartsick, and is appropriate for Halloween, so it’s going into my Halloween folder. It also comes 3 other tones.

I haven’t perused the Marketplace as much as I should, but the other day I did find this next outfit for 50L$. It is  listed as a promo priced item. I don’t know long it will be listed at that bargain price for. It includes, the ears, tail, belt and bangles.

Rawr is a neko store, and althought their Midnight Mania boards are for group members only, everyone can get stuff from the lucky chairs. ‘E’ is not a common letter on lucky chairs/boards on the whole, so when I was at Rawr last, I managed to bag the next 2 outfits – Autumn & Psycho.

September Green

I have spent some time today checking that some of the freebies/cheapies that I have for you are still available, and also to update a notecard that Emmi has ready to pass on to anyone who is in need of it.

I have 3 outfits for you today, and first up on the catwalk is a mix of Pixel Dolls, Multiple Personality Designs (MPD) and Elymode. The shrug is part of a complete set, but can be used as a separate item & same with the included cami (not shown), and cost me only 75L$.

The pants were a freebie when Elymode reopened after a refurbishment of the mainstore. One store that I have been to when I was short on cheapies or dollarbies is Multiple Personality Designs (aka MPD). It is from MPD that I got the top, and it came with a skirt bottom (shown), alternative sculpted prim bottom (not shown) and matching green leggings (not shown).

The second outfit is a mix of OoEas! and Glam Affair (formerly Beauty Avatar). I mention this as it can be confusing if you can a folder named Glam Affair but the contents are named Beauty Avatar, and you didn’t know that Beauty Avatar was rebranded some time ago.

When OoEas! first opened, the shorty bustier was available in green (‘grass’) but now they have this lovely cherry red version as the current freebie, which you can find right next to the entrance. The Baviera pants are from Glam Affair discount section and you do need to go back once in a while as new stuff is being added.

It was from Glam Affair for the grand sum of 20L$ that I got the Capri top and the brown Baviera pants. The sneakers I got from Paw 2 Paw.
