2/52 – Coral

No, I am not time travelling. I am kind of playing catch-up with 52 WCC Part Deux.   Week 2 was Coral.

The various tones of the color coral are representations of the wide range of colors of the class of cnidarians, also called corals. The first recorded use of coral as a color name in English was in 1513.

Week 52 – Orange

The colour orange is named after the orange fruit, after the appearance of the ripe fruit. Before this word was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to as ġeolurēad (yellow-red) in Old and Middle English.

The word orange entered Middle English from Old French and Anglo-Norman orenge. The earliest recorded use of the word in English is from the 13th century and referred to the fruit. The earliest attested use of the word in reference to the colour is from the 16th century (1512, in a will now filed with the UK’s Public Records Office).

It is generally thought that Old French borrowed the Italian melarancio (“fruit of the orange tree”, with mela “fruit”) as pume orenge (with pume “fruit”). Although pume orenge is attested earlier than melarancio in available written sources, lexicographers believe that the Italian word is actually older. The word ultimately derives from a Dravidian language—possibly Telugu నారిఙ‌ naarinja or Malayalam നാരങ്ങ‌ naaranga or Tamil நாரம் nāram—via Sanskrit नारङ्ग nāraṅgaḥ “orange tree”, with borrowings through Persian نارنگ nārang and Arabic نارنج nāranj.

Dollarbies Galore!

Over the last few days I have managed to bag a few dollarbies. **Prism** has a new monthly dollarbie, in a subdued autumn palette. This was one outfit I have kept as it be put together with other items, such as this lovely jacket from Jane.

Whilst doing the Addicted to Halloween Hunt, one store I had never been to before was Insatiable Fashions [IF]. After having found the ATTH pumpkin, I browsed a bit and found some items that were on sale for 1L$! I didn’t browse the whole store though.

There is a pumpkin hunt going on at Calico Ingmann Creations… Some contain hair and others, skin. The hair comes in 4 colour-ways: Candycorn, Halloween, Pumpkin Patch & Spooky.

Hey there, baby doll

It’s day four of this current FoaB series and the theme is baby-doll tops or dresses, hence the title.

I love baby-dolls, as they can be paired up with a classy pair of pants or a pair of jeans. Not only are there dresses or tops, but some sets of lingerie also come with baby-doll options. But the first is not really a baby-doll but a mini-dress, lol.

Rotten Defiance had a sale a few days. Single items were 10L$ with fatpacks at 60L$, so I got some great deals.

The next is a 2-in-1 set from Glam Affair. I am showing the baby-doll version, but it can be worn as a pant-set.

The 3rd and final outfit for the day is a mix-&-match of A Piece of Candy and Annabella’s Song. I was tipped off about these goodies y the FabFree blog.

FoaB 3

I was supposed to do this post yesterday but RL does have this annoying knack of getting in the way, lol. But that hasn’t stopped me from finding some fabulous free or cheap clothes for you.

First on the catwalk is a mix-&-match from one of the stores in SL I love, Sassy Kitty Designs. Like most stores, Sassy Kitty has a discount area in a little cottage next to the mainstore. There is a tp board in the mainstore for the discount section.

In the discount section I found lots of separates for 0L$ to 25L$. Among the various goodie bags I found was a fatpack of 3 strapless tops in black, grey & white for 1L$ and a fatpack of boobtube tops in black, grey, pink, purple and white for 0L$. I got the skirt from the subscribo notice history. It came in a fatpack, each skirt is black with different coloured buttons, but I have kept just the all-black skirt.

Next up is an outfit from Sn@tch. By now you will know that Sn@tch is my favourite store. ‘E’ is not a common letter for Lucky Chairs or Boards, but just a few days ago I was lucky and got the lovely Daisy Experiment fatpack :D

My last outfit is the May group gift from P.S. Style. This not only includes the top and shorts, but also the matching shoes. To get this you will need to join the group (no fee to pay!!!) and wear the group tag when clicking the poster.

I got the flowers with poses from Olive Juice when the store was participating in the Beautiful Bloom Event in April. Along with the flowers, I got the plain poses which means I can use my own props.

Silent Sparrow

Hey guys!!!!

My weekly feature, Double Dose, is taking a small break over the holidays and will be back in the New Year with a bang :) !! The New Year may bring in something new regarding the blog, which I mentioned earlier — a week-long miniseries on freebies & cheapies that can be found across the grid.

Onto today’s post…. As I have often said, my SL wardrobe is an eclectric mix, from grunge to street, and even goth. I am sort of rebelling against the prevailing cheerfulness of Christmas and decided to put on a recent purchase from Silent Sparrow.

I really like this outfit because of the details in the texturing, which is brocaded velvet. Velvet has the depth and softness that can keep intricate designs like the scroll-work.

Hyasynth Tiramisu, the creative mind behind Silent Sparrow, created the Gloomy Suit to go with the Gloomy jeans/tops/skirts separates. The suit is available in Soot (black) and Lust (red) only.

Double Dose / Fashion on a Budget 6

As promised, this week’s Double Dose is taking part in a mini-series about looking good on a budget.

It was during the planning for this particular post that I got the idea to do a feature on some of the freebies/cheapies available in SL, and from there it expanded to become a week-long mini-series. Whilst talking to a friend in SL, it came to me that instead of doing a one-off, I should do the minsi-series once a month.

OK, back to the post….. I challenged myself to see if I could find cheap or free outfits or fatpacks of separates, and had to be of a goth/grunge/alternative style. The answer was Sn@tch. I had been a member of the subscribe group for a few weeks, but never had a chance to have a look at the stuff on offer, so this was the perfect opportunity.

I was glad to see that Sn@tch has a freebie/cheapie section, unlike some stores in SL. It is obvious what a freebie is (anything that costs 0L$, lol); however what is more difficult to define is a cheapie. To me a cheapie is a complete outfit or a single item that costs less than 100L$; although some of you would be saying that it should be less than 50L$. Well, that’s your opinion and I respect that, but for this post, I will use my definition.

The budget I had set was 300L$. For less than 300L$ I got 5 outfits, 1 megapack and a freebie, and still had change left.

The first outfit is actually a mish-mash of  Sn@tch separates and other items in my SL wardrobe.  Fashion gone wrong??? It looks like it or I have joined the circus, lol. The tank top is from a megapack and comes shirt & jacket layers. The leggings are from another megapack (20 pairs!!!) and come on the underies layer only.

The next outfit is a complete sweater dress, although this is not the only colour available. On the notecard that comes with this outfit, Ivey states that her inspiration for this dress is a sweater that she owned in RL during the 80s.

In Sl, as in RL, I love sweaters. And when I saw this one, I had to have it and so too with the last of today’s gems from Sn@tch.

When I am looking for outfits, one thing I look for is versatility of the items (ie shirt, skirt etc) and if there multiple options included. This is true of this particular outfit, Hitchhiker, as it comes with 3 skirts (in Army, Dusk or Sunrise).

I would encourage you to pop over to Sn@tch and check out the stuff for yourself.

Fashion on a Budget 5

Two posts for you today….Got so pissed off with SL last night for playing ping pong with me again that I didn’t take any piccies :( .

I have the usual weekly Double Dose coming up later for you…this week focusing on the work of Ivey Deschanel, the name behind the Sn@tch brand. But first, I have what was meant to be yesterday’s post.

I have a Christmas outfit from Deviance, a cheapie from *BOOM* and a Down The Chimney Hunt outfit from So Many Styles.

On the Down The Chimney Hunt you can pick up some great goodies from over 90 stores around SL, but you better be quick the Hunt end 20 Dec. I didn’t do all of the Hunt, I sort of cheated and did bits of the Hunt. The DTCH goodie I want to show is from So Many Styles (SMS), and a jacket & long skirt. I have shown the two together, although you can mix and match them with other bits and pieces in your SL wardrobe.

The skirt is not like other long flexi skirts with just one sets of flexi prims; it has 3!!!! (one for each leg and a middle section) that makes it look more fuller and realistic. The belt is also included and is very hippie in style, with beads.

The second outfit I found at *BOOM* (which is located on the same sim as Modd.G), whilst I as trying to find the DTCH object. The complete outfit was 50L$ and can be found at the front of the store, on the left as you enter the store.  The necklace I am wearing with this and the SMS outfit is another DTCH goodie (from Otaku Designs) and is in 2 versions, for the chest and spine attachment points.

Come the summer I will be wearing this one a lot!!!!!! Good enough for a party at a club or down by the beach with a pair of shorts or a skirt :) (so may ways, lol).

And thirdly, a Christmas-themed group gift from Deviance…

The matching boots were free!! They come with 2 options, short or tall leg prims.  I love velvet, and in this purple colour, it is appropriate for this time of year. Also included with the dress are hats with or without holly and holly decoration for the chest.

As I said earlier I still have the weekly Double Dose for you still to come. See you then :) .

Fashion on a Budget 4

I have now reached the half way mark with this mini-series, and I am somewhat behind with getting freebies. But I have the great excuse of doing the Down The Chimney hunt, from which I have got some fabulous freebies :D .

One outfit that I found a lovely Steampunk unisex ensemble designed by Hyasynth Tiramisu (see Ember post). I had deleted the pic from my harddrive :( so I have posted it as individual post from Flickr (\o/).

A favourite store in SL is Mischief. When I saw on the Skipping Stones Hunt blog that Mischief were a participating store, I knew I had to go and found the hunt prize (cleverly disguised as a open book). My decision was a good one, as this sweater dress is just lovely & the leggings are part of the outfit.

A friend of mine in SL, Calisa Devin, told me about a store that I had not heard of….. Free Speerit. I decided to hop over to check out the store and found that they have freebies at the back, and a ‘Whatever you want to pay’ wall offering jeans and tops.
