September Freebie Mix

I have been out and about the grid getting some bargains for you. As usual I have 3 outfits for you.

First up is the Spetember freebie from SF Designs and a cheapie from Kyoot at The Dressing Room Blue.

The blazer can be worn as a casual jacket (as shown) or as part of a school uniform. The white piping reminds me of the jackets worn at events like the Henley Regata by members of various sailing and yachting clubs. The leggings are from Kyoot and are an exclusive item at The Dressing Room Blue (as Kyoot are a guest designer). This must be Emmi’s favourite spontaneous outfit at the moment.

The second is one that you can create at least 4 different looks, all for 75L$ from Delights by Talena (DbT) .

I have shown the shirt/bra with shorts and shirt/bra with jeans. The bra can be worn on its own.

The last outfit is a mix of DbT and Glam Affair, and cost me 20L$!!.

The top can also be brought in a yellow version for 10L$ at DbT’s location on Lemania sim, and there are co-ordinating jeans along with plain solid colour versions of the top.

All things of Japanese cuteness

Usually FoaB doesn’t have any set themes, as I deliberately set out to bring to you a random selection of the freebies/cheapies out there on the grid. Saying that, this post & yesterday’s can be considered as being themed. The theme is ‘kawaii’. Kawaii in Japanese means cuteness (literally ‘adorable’, ‘loveable’), and one example of this ‘cuteness’ is the Hello Kitty brand.

In SL there has been a growing trend in cute/kawaii fashion styles, not just in clothes but all things relating to SL fashion.

I found a new store yesterday thanks to Evie’s blog… Kawaii by Anoushka Feden. This is a new store in world so there is not a lot avaible at the moment, but what is available is both reasonably priced and cute. The outfit that I am wearing is the subscribo group joining gift.

It’s not often that you come across new designers that show a lot of promise, but Anoushka is certainly one.

The next 2 outfits are mix-&-match of freebies and cheapies from Izumiya, by Izumi Homewood. I have more from Izumiya to show you so look out for that in the near future.

I created this look after seeing a similar outfit on the grid. The only things that I brought were the shirt and jacket for 80L$, everything else I had in my inventory or got for free, like the shoes. The skin is one I got for free from the Vive9 closing down sale so this is no longer available but I am sure that you can find something similar in SL .

My current favourite piece of clothing is this jacket. It is sold as a set containing both a long- and half- sleeved version, but also a vest version. Also the jacket skirt prim comes in short and long lengths, so in all you get 6 jackets for the grand sum of 60L…. that’s 10L per jacket style!!!!!! A BARGAIN!!!!!!

I paired it with the recently released Denim One-Piece. The set has 2 versions, the camisole and the one-piece (which is a long dress). But from the pieces included I created a romper-style look.

This versatility in Izumi’s work is what I love the most in SL

Izumiya

Izumiya is a Japanese store owned by Izumi Homewood. I had first across this little store when someone in the FabFree group had IMed the group to say there were freebies. I hadn’t been back to the store until I read Evie’s last post, so I hoofed on over to the store. Not only are there freebies in the end room upstairs, there are also some fabulous cheap items to buy, including full outfits for 25L!!!!!

All About Evie

My friend and fellow blogger, Evelyn Hartshon, owns a little store in SL. In the past few days/weeks she has passed me some of the new stuff in her store. She sent me a pair of leopard print leggings, following a conversation in IM saying that she had gotten bored with making tops and experimenting with making other clothing items like leggings.

Some time ago Evie had sent me the butterfly tops, but I didn’t have anything suitable to pair up with them. So when she sent me the first 2 sets of leggings she had made, I had the perfect companion piece.

She had sent me the leopard leggings asking for my opinion. I replied that they were good but felt that they need cuffs and a more defined waistline. Evie went quiet for a few minutes, no doubt beavering away in Photoshop redesigning the leggings and making leg cuffs. A few minutes later she sent me a new pair of leggings with cuffs.

Next thing I knew, she was sending me further leopard print leggings in more colours like the purple ones in the picture above.

The poses I have used in all the pictures are also by Evie, but they were test poses as she has only just started making poses.

I hope you all had a good May Day. I have a few more freebies and cheapies for your perusal.

The first of today’s 3 outfits is from Mashooka, which I got at their 3rd year anniversary hunt. It is the Original Vest Suit.

Both the shorts and jacket are made from tweed textures. The jacket has 2 options for the hood….hood down or hood up. The outfit also includes the Meena blouse.

My next outfit is the current group gift from Sn@tch. Ok, this is a pay-to-join group with a 300L$ fee, but it is absolutely worth it. Ivey Deschanel does not let her fans down as each gift she sends out is of the same high quality as the stuff in her store. The gift will be in group notices for the next 14 days, so you still have time to pay & join the Sn@tch VIPS. 50L$ Fridays

All of us like a good bargain… free or cheap. In SL there are many ways that designers offer their wares at a bargain price… Humpday Happiness (on Wednesdays @ 69L$), 35L$ Thursdays, 50L$ Fridays, 60L$ Sundays (& Saturdays) and Bargain Hunters Paradise (BHP).

Some of the items offered are either an exclusive one-time only or something already available in an exclusive colour. Since I first heard of 50L$ Fridays (FLF), I have sim-hopped for an hour looking at the offered items. The designers involved with FLF include some of my favourite, such as So Many Styles and This is a Fawn, and also include some I hadn’t been to, like Whippet & Buck and Kookie.

I have 2 outfits to show featuring a couple of this week’s FLF. The first is the prairie blouse from So Many Styles, which is a great casual blouse that you dress down or up. I have chosen to pair it with a pair of jeans from Relzpsa Loc, creating a casual look.

The second outfit features a tank top from Whippet & Buck, which I paired with a pair of Chinese-influenced trousers/pants from Lika Ruby which a unexpected bargain. I found the Lika Ruby store on the Magi Take Shop island whilst exploring the sim and found some nice Chinese-influenced clothes, such as dresses, tops and pants.

One last point — I have downloaded the new SL viewer 2.0 and am slowly getting used to the new user interface. But one great feature that I really like is the Current Outfit folder in my inventory which shows everything I am wearing. I had a problem with taking pictures until looking at the in-world help and it twigged that I should be selecting the Current Window option, and I have found that the resolution is just as good as in the old viewer when I took high res pictures.

Skin Revisited

Back in July 2009 I did a piece on the various skin available in SL, mainly on the brands I knew of. This time I will be concentrating over the next few weeks (approx 1 a week) on some of the skin/makeup that Viki & Emmi has stashed away in their inventories.

All of us have our favourites because of the makeup, cleavage/no cleaveage, freckles/no freckles, and tone options or any combination of these. Today, I will be focusing on Emmi’s makeup bag.

The first of the skins/makeups I want to show is Vive9′s Aoki in the Light tone. The emphasis of the makeup of this set is the eyeshadow.

The second is Vive9′s Belle in theLight tone which is similar in style to the Aoki set.

However, in both sets there were one or two which I really liked, as the balance of eyeshadow to lipstick was just right. In the Aoki set I chose the Mist makeup for a fantasy avatar that I created for Emmi (though I am not sure when this will be worn) because of the details of the eyeshadow (click here). But on the whole I tend to go for the natural or understated look with Emmi.
