Retro Cheapies

Fashion on a Budget is back. Today the goodies are all retro chic from /artilleri/ and Ricielli.

This cute 1950s outfit is availible at  the Gnubie store for 1L$, from /artilleri/ !!!! And you won’t even have to break the piggy bank to get the shoes from Duh!.

As I had liked the Jen outfit (see above), I decided to check out the mainstore, which is housed within a 1950s diner. As well as complete outfits, you can also get separates. While I was browsing, I noticed that the light blue Zee tank top was on sale for 50L$ (the other colours were 100L$).

I know that most of you will know that The Dresssing Room has launched its’ 13th fortnightly collection last Friday. One of the regular designers is Ricielli, and this time they have a complete outfit on offer.

That’s all I have for you until tomorrow!!!

To every thing there is a season

No doubt you will recognise the title as the first line of the song Turn Turn Turn. However, it’s much older than the 1960s. In fact it it just one half of a line from a passage in the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).

I though it very appropriate for this post as I have some great finds from The Seasons Hunt – Fall to show you.

One thing about this hunt I liked alot was that the participating stores were not linked (ie there were no LMs in the prizes for the nest store). The prizes included a notecard with a list of stores and you could the list in any order, and it’s a short hunt, with 60 stores!!

The prizes are not all clothes. They also include home furnishings, but the common theme is Fall / Autumn.

Pluck Challenge – Background

It’s week 4 and Alyesha Rennahan has set a new challenge… Background and Bonus Colour (orange)… click here.

I have don’t have much orange stuffs so I just concentrated on the main challange… It’s all in the Background.

Choosing my fvourite background is difficult as I do a mix of ‘on location’ and in studio shoots. But my favourite type of background is usually a landscape one, such as the one as shown in the piccie above. My outfit is something like I would wear in RL when working in the countryside.

Ahoy!!

I have been offline for last 24 hours or so thanks to my internet connection (read BT HomeHub) playing silly games, but it seems to be stable at the moment, or I wouldn’t be writing this post.

19 Sept was Speak Like A Pirate Day, and in recognition of this, Ivey of Sn@tch fame sent her Sn@tchettes a gift made up of old black & white stuffs. The included a black skirt and a tricorne hat which I chose not to show.

I loved this fun take on the pirate look so much that I have kept so when Halloween comes round, I have a costume ready for the parties.

New Worlds

View of Metropolis from spaceport

This sprawling, teeming Metropolis was my home for too many years that I care to recall. Metropolis as it is known to all its citizens was built just in time when careless actions of unthinking generations collided with catastrophic & cataclysmic environmental disasters (floods, droughts, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes) and nearly destroyed our original homeworld. Some brave souls of all races returned to HomeWorld to repair the damage.

My Father’s family apart from me have returned to HomeWorld. But I feel drawn to the stars, like the seagulls call to the souls of the Elves of Tolkien’s Middle Earth, and I cannot ingore that call. Saying goodbye to what you have known is hard. Tears are shed and little mementos given and received. All my worldly possessions have been crated up and are stowed on broad the next colony transport.

The Council (elected by the citizens from all races) had made announcements over the last few months asking for people to come forward as volunteers on a colonising venture. Three years ago a space transport had left Metropolis’ spaceport bound for unknown worlds in an attempt to find suitable new HomeWorlds for us. Late last year that same transport had returned with news that 2 such worlds had been found. Knowing I had to obey the call of the stars, I applied to be a coloniser on one of these worlds, although I had no particular skills required like construction or medical, but I was good at making charts (maps).

View of coastal land near the settlement.

Initially all colonisers were housed in a makeshift camp whilst a site for more permanent residence was located. As part of the sureying team, it was my duty to make sure that each prospective dwelling was located within a plot about 1 acre in size and had a readily available source of freshwater. Once these plots were located, teams of 10-12 men would bring the construction materials to the site and work began on building the dwellings.

Each dwelling had been designed to be a one-room construction, but with families having signed up for this venture, some were redesigned with extra rooms. My little cabin, I decided, is located at the edge of the settlement near the ‘wastelands’ looking towards the distant mountains. My little garden is already producing enough food for me and with a small surplus, I can trade with my neighbours. Hanging on my wall is the very first chart of the settlement and its surrounding countryside.

View from my cabin

For now I am happy, but I know that I will need to leave to seek the stars again and that I will not be alone on that adventure.

Call Me Scarlett

Alysha Rennahan also set an extra challenge for us this week… The Bonus Colour Day. The first BCD challenge is the colour Red, and needs to be 80% of the outfit.

I have kept the theme going from the main challenge (gone but not forgotten) by choosing items by designers that are no longer designing in SL. In my case it’s Sprawl and ETD. I wish I had gotten more hair from ETD before it went for good :( Oh well, I can still enjoy what I do have.

So, enough chatter, let’s look at what I have put together…

September Freebie Mix

I have been out and about the grid getting some bargains for you. As usual I have 3 outfits for you.

First up is the Spetember freebie from SF Designs and a cheapie from Kyoot at The Dressing Room Blue.

The blazer can be worn as a casual jacket (as shown) or as part of a school uniform. The white piping reminds me of the jackets worn at events like the Henley Regata by members of various sailing and yachting clubs. The leggings are from Kyoot and are an exclusive item at The Dressing Room Blue (as Kyoot are a guest designer). This must be Emmi’s favourite spontaneous outfit at the moment.

The second is one that you can create at least 4 different looks, all for 75L$ from Delights by Talena (DbT) .

I have shown the shirt/bra with shorts and shirt/bra with jeans. The bra can be worn on its own.

The last outfit is a mix of DbT and Glam Affair, and cost me 20L$!!.

The top can also be brought in a yellow version for 10L$ at DbT’s location on Lemania sim, and there are co-ordinating jeans along with plain solid colour versions of the top.
