Winter Warmers

November 26, 2009

Hi!! I have soup on the hob, warming winter vegetable soup with crusty bread — so help yourselves, and pull up a seat.  As it is only 4 weeks or so to Christmas, I decided not to over do the clothing, colourwise. That I will do nearer the time ;)

I have some winter clothes to show off today, from a little store that I found in SL located on its own sim! The store is Sprawl, and it offers a nice range of tops, sweaters, jackets, trousers, jeans and some skirts, which are all available as individual colours or as fatpacks. Each item also comes with multiple layers, which to me is a big thing.

In the picture below, I’m wearing the jacker layer of this lovely knit sweater, with prim turtleneck collar and upper & lower sleeve attachments. The bottom part of the sweater is on the pant layer, with the trousers on the underpants layer.

Unfortunately, due to problems with internet, I did not have time to take a close up of the trousers. However, the grey version of the trousers had been blogged by Nissa Nightfire on her blog. Here, I am wearing the Ink version. It must be coincidence that when I was in high school, I had a pair of grey trousers in a similar style.

It is hard to find trainers/sneakers that you like in SL. When I was browsing through the Ducknipple blog, I saw the Harry skateshoes. These are available as individual pairs (8 in all) or as a fatpack. What really caught my eye, is the simplicity of the design of the trainers. They look like they should be very comfortable, and they are! Very comfortable. A good thing given I do a fair amount of exploring round SL.

Double Dose – So Many Styles

November 21, 2009

Hello, fellow fashionistas :)

I want to showcase each part of the first of 2 outfits from So Many Styles (SMS), finally ending with a picture of the full outfit. I will start at the top first.

I have kept to a muted palate with this particular outfit, and have chosen to accessorise accordingly. The skin that I chose is the Patti Makeup3 from A Piece of Candy (APoC), with greyish blue eye-shadow and a pale pink, almost natural, lipstick. I like the skins from APoC as the makeup is done really well, so it seems to be done by professional makeup artists.

This skin and 19 others are available at APoC as the Pink Diamond Hunt, with each of the 20 diamonds costing 1L$.

The necklace shown is from Uzuri, and is perfect for my chosen palate. It does not detract from the outfit, but emphases the texture of the dress & leggings, which shot with a metallic-like thread. The jewellery at Uzuri has a strong ethnic aesthetic, not only in the designs but also in the colours used.

I chose the Arianna hair in Mocha from Calico Ingmann Creations — please note that this available to group members only. The ringlets make the hair appear light, and gives it volume.

Another inportment accessory is the footwear. I had to trawl through the few pairs of informal/casual shoes in my inventory, before I found these clogs from Pixel Fashions.

Made in wood like traditional clogs, but with a modern twist with the gold tacks hammered in a floral pattern on the top of the uppers, not on the soles as in traditional clogs. The gold tacks offsets the golden highlights on the dress, where the silver of the necklace matches the colour of the leggings.

Finally, here is the complete outfit. I have chosen not to take closeups of the dress itself, as I wanted to show the accessories themselves. I like this dress, as it hugs the body and is shaded so that it looks and feels like velvet.

I have not felt the need to accessorise the 2nd of the SMS outfits, as it looks complete in itself. Any accessories would have been too much overwhelmed the outfit.

I love bohomenian influenced clothing, like this dress. Again, I have kept to a neutral palate, of khaki green and pearlly grey paired with black.

The skin I chose is the Patti makeup 4, also from APoC, as it too has a muted makeup.

So I did, and as a result of a long talk with Soma, I was given some freebies. These are currently available at Soma’s mainstore.

All of the items I have from Somapop are seperates, so I have the potential to create several different looks, and some of the items come in more than one colour :) .

Mischief & Ibizarre

November 11, 2009

Hi there!!!

I have a nice new outfit in SL at the moment, made from items brought at yet more new-to-me stores… This time it is Mischief and Ibizarre.

As it is now bitterly cold, I am buying some nice knitwear to keep me toasty warm and cosy. I popped along to Ibizarre to check out the store, as I always do, and on the new releases board were this cute little top and knitted jacket. They looked good together, so I brought them there & then.

I have been mixing them up with various jeans I have in my ever growing SL wardrobe…. My other half will soon start complaining that I’m taking all the space up in the wardrobe at our place… Oh well, such is the life of a fashionista, LOL.

I have currently paired the top & jacket up with a pair of cords from Mischief.

Yesterday I got a notecard from Cupcakes…. They have moved to their own sim, and to celebrate the move, they are doing a hunt…. 29 giftwrapped parcels hidden in the Cupcakes mainstore and around the sim. I have found 27 of the 29 parcels, not bad for the second hunt I have done :) . But BEWARE THE LAG, I tp’d over to the sim, and soon I was lagging like crazy….Everyone who likes Cupcakes seemed to be there, and it was the same today.

Ok, I’ll shut up now and let you have the Credits.

Double Dose of Casual

November 7, 2009

Hey there !!! :)

Thought I would introduce something new to the blog….. First of all, a new layout – clean, crisp & easier to read the text. Second, a new feature called Double Dose, where I will be showcasing some of the fabulous fashions out on the grid from some of the great fashion designers.

So for the first Double Dose, I have 2 outfits made up of separates from shops that I had not heard of or been to before. I sort of discovered their existence on the blogs.

Casual Chic

The first outfit is a combination of items from Somapop and L’Abel.
I found L’Abel whilst looking for retro-styled clothing, and found this lovely Nelka top. What I really love about this top is the high-waisted design and the combination of textures used, the velvet on the high waistband and cuffs juxtaposed with the metallic grey fabric of the blouse.

I came across these jeans from Somapop on Evie’s blog. I love the details on the waistband and the use of coloured patches as the back pockets and leg cuffs, giving a nice contrast to the blue denim.

Bonfire Casual

For all my readers who do not live in the UK, on November 5th every year we have Guy Fawkes Night (commonly known as Bonfire Night).

It marks the downfall of the Gunpowder Plot of 5 November 1605, in which a number of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to destroy the Houses of Parliament, in London, United Kingdom. Festivities are centred on the use of fireworks and the lighting of bonfires.

Although the rain held off on Bonfire Night itself, it was still pretty cold. I found the skirt and cardigan at a new-to-me store, Anuenue. I love woollen sweaters & cardigans, but in RL wool can, somtimes, make me itch :( . What I really love about this cardigan is the detailing on  the hems, it really sets the grey off nicely.

An Ode to Autumn

November 6, 2009
I was having mellow thoughts about autumn, so I decided to google for any autumn-related poems, and found this is one by John Keats.
To Autumn by John Keats
I
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.
II
Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
Or on a half-reap’d furrow sound asleep,
Drows’d with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers:
And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
Steady thy laden head across a brook;
Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,
Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.

III
Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,–
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;

And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

It says it all, doesn’t it?
When I was little, I had too rather annoying habits — jumping into puddles and shuffling my feet through piles of fallen autumn leaves, kicking them up into the air. What child hasn’t done that????

Out on the Town

November 2, 2009

Hi there….

All of us fashionistas just love to create new looks with already existing pieces in our wardrobes. I was pondering what to wear in SL, so I challenged myself to making up an outfit any fashionista would wear for a night out on the town.

So here is the result of me digging deep into the depths of my SL wardrobe.

When I was going through a grunge clothing phase, I found a nice little store called DuckNipple. You can get complete outfits and loads of separates there, all nicely made. Whilst browsing on one visit I found these lovely trousers; they have a trill-like texture which I just love. I also love retro items and came also a store called Ivalde, where you can find clothes designed in the styles of the 1920’s through to the 80’s. Neferia Abel, the owner of Ivalde, launched a new range of clothing called L’Abel. The L’Abel range are separates and complete outfits (mainly dresses) all styled with a retro flare.

The L’Abel Euzebia top in grey is a lovely item to have, as it can be worn with or without the sculpted bottom, depending on the look you want. The neckline is detailed with a black lace overlay.

I wanted to keep the look simple and clean, so the only accessories I added were the Clutch Purse from Cherry and shoes from Maitreya.

Life is like a Box of Chocolates

October 31, 2009

I try not to blog about the same store or designer twice, but I will make an exception in this case.

In my last posting, I had said that I had gone initially to check out the store. Well, I purchased 3 outfits, 2 of which I blogged last time, and now I want to show the third.

Ok, so what if I pinched the title from Tom Hanks in the film Forestt Gump,  I thought it was approciate. I love chocolate :P

I don’t ‘do’ brown hair in SL, as I am a dark brunette in RL, and as I always wanted to be different in SL, I go for reds or blacks when I consider buying hair. But I had to get some brown hair for this particular outfit, even if I won’t wear it much, so I went to Hairy Solutions (formerly Bewitched Hair) as I had received a notecard about their new releases.

I like freebies and group gifts, and so when I joined the Maitreya non-SL group I was given a group gift bag containing shoes (Pumps in fact). There were the usual brown pair, but further down the list I saw Tawny (similar to Tan) and thought that would be the more appropriate colour.

A Piece of Candy, anyone??

October 30, 2009

Every so often I browse through various SL related blogs, and sometimes get inspired or intrigued as to what’s going on. One fantastic blog that I stumbled upon is Kiss Kiss with Khitten Kurka.

I was reading the latest postings on Ms Kurka’s blog, and was introduced to another ‘new-to-me’ shop, A Piece of Candy (APoC). So being an inquisitive so-and-so, I decided to hot foot over to the shop and check it for myself. I am so glad that I did :) .

APoC currently has a hunt on at the moment — 20 red diamonds for 1L$ each. There are also 2 other diamonds, also for 1L$ each. These are scattered across both floors of the shop.

A lot of the larger stores often have a discount section. APoC is the same, though the items are available for 1L$ !!!!!! So it won’t break your purse ;)

Whilst busily trying to find the last 2 red diamonds, I was perusing the items available in the store, and fell head over heels in love with 2 of the complete outfits on the ground floor of the shop — Carlye and Maria.

Both outfits have patchwork items, which I adore (as I occasionally do patchwork in RL), and patchwork has a retro feel to it.

Keeping to the retro theme of the outfits, I chose the Apple II hair (reds pack) from Maitreya and appropriate footwear from Shiny Things.

I sometimes add little extras such as jewellery, but in this instance I felt that would have been too much.

Enough chitchat, time for some piccies I think. LOL
